As I read it, it reminds me of why I do what I do. Though Ben didn’t mention anything about PMOs or project management, his description of the evolving role of the CIO increasingly demands an integrated approach to portfolio, program, project and process management. Why do I say that? Technology is growing in PRIORITY ACROSS the enterprise. This means someone(s) must prioritize and coordinate the use of resources and $$ across a growing number of interconnected departments and technologies.
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, all of the types of work that a good PMO does is already being done in every company. The question is whether or not it is being done well, whether it is being done together, and whether it is focused on the right things.
